Happy Monday to everyone! I would like to start by saying thank you for all of your favorable responses to last week’s post on the distressed look with film. We appreciate all of the positive comments, questions, and interest. We will do our best to keep bringing you similar types of design techniques for you to use.
This week we created what I like to call the “Superman…unzipped” . Basically this technique is made by layering films to create the look of a shirt on top of another shirt, sort of like the tuxedo shirt idea. In this example we used some Eco Film to create a basic superman logo, then layered some on top of it to look like a zipper. Finishing it off, we added some nice chrome metallic film to give the zipper a 3d and authentic look…creating a shirt inside of another shirt! I think it’s a pretty cool idea because you create the look that a lot of people like to wear like a hoodie, vest, or jacket on the outside with a shirt underneath showing through.
I hope you liked this week’s pimp-a-shirt and gong-ing! Please share your comments and questions…c ya next week.

I love it…….can you tell us all the material that you used? I notice that the last one was a cold peel. Can we download this one anytime soon?
Thanks for all the great designs and ideas.

Nice, I’m feelin’ that one guys, great job! I always have trouble trying to line up two colors. Seems the first one shrinks too much. Plan on doin’ any tutorials in that area? Keep up the great work!

When layering more often than not your will run into registration issues due to the material shrinking. Best way to combat this is apply the first layer for as little time as possible for it to adhere. With the Eco-Film, 1 second will do. This will drastically reduce the amount of shrinkage.

Great layering job with great design results! I, too, would like the artwork–the zipper is the key to this design’s success. I would also like to find out more about reducing the challenge of layering as Dejacks mentioned.

Beautiful design!!! Above you mentioned you used Eco-film and metallic chrome. I did not see you changing the cutter’s blade. Is this the megatallic silver that you used, the alloy or foil chrome? Anyway that was a great job!

In our case, the 45 degree blade is all that is needed. When cutting flock, twil and other thicker materials, it is recommended to use the 60

You guys are on fire in 2010! Another great design…the zipper is the key, and can be used for many other ideas. The gong is unbelievable…I could feel the sound waves!

Very fun design! I was curious what the “rules/laws” are with using artwork such as the superman logo? Can you get in trouble for creating a design with a “known” logo in it like this and then selling it?

Keep up the good work!.
