Well last week we had our first vistor and special guest appearance to Pimpashirt. This week we bring to you our first member provided artwork for Pimpashirt #12. But it doesn’t stop there…no no…the music track was also courtesy of the same member…Maleec from Six Deuce Music out of our own backyard, Pittsburgh, PA. Special thanks go out to Maleec for providing us with this weeks creation. Before we get down to the nitty gritty of Pimpashirt #12, we would like to invite anyone out there to follow in Maleec’s foot steps and provide us with your designs or music to help us build this fast growing community of t-shirt enthusiasts.
Now let’s get on with Maleec’s creation. I (pimpashirt emcee Mike) met Maleec while pursuing my Masters degree and heard some of his music while working in the same computer lab. So I decided to send him an email and see if he would be interested in providing us with some instrumental tracks for our videos. As you will hear in the video, he graciously sent us this weeks music track “Breathe” along with his “Mr. Money Up Front” t-shirt design. Check it out.
Mr. Money Up Front - Pimpashirt #12
Pic 2 Pre-Printed Heat Transfer
Maleec told me that he wanted some bling in his t-shirt, so naturally we used some gold foil and neon heat transfer vinyl along with some standard white and black. We also used a metallic based pre-printed transfer (pic 2) this week for a little extra added flavor. Nothing all that ground breaking as far as technique this week, but it goes to show you that with a good design and some specialty finsh vinyl, you can still make a hot customized t-shirt.
Before we get to the video, we would like to introduce a few new sections to pimpashirt.com…Around the WORLD and Gallery. Around the WORLD is a call out to all of our members to submit their pics of pimpashirt inspired creations. You can read more about the type of stuff we’re looking for by clicking the Around the WORLD section at the top of the page. The gallery section is photo related as well, we’re devoting it to still images of all of our pimpashirt creations, so new visitors or repeat visitors can easily glance through all of the creations we have pimped. These new sections along with the free art we are starting to post at the bottom of the right sidebar gives you all the more reason to subscribe to Pimpashirt – click here and enter your email to subscribe.
Now sit back, relax and enjoy the video of Pimpashirt #12 brought to you by Maleec from Six Deuce Music.
Exciting week at Pimpashirt.com – we had our first visitors and guest appearance. All the way from Syracuse, NY came Nelson from Suitable for the People. Nelson was a great sport and things got started when I video taped them coming in the front door – from there he went straight into the Pimpashirt lab to get a hands on demonstration of the various pieces of equipment and software that we use in our videos. After his demo he agreed to hop on our video for a special guest appearance on our intro. You can watch it by viewing the video at the end of this post.
But first we must talk about this week’s production. This one is a new favorite. Have you ever seen the photo of Bo Jackson holding a baseball bat over his shoulders while wearing football shoulder pads? If your my age (26) or older and a sports fan you might remember Bo – if not, just google him under an image search and you’ll find the photo. The two sport star excelled in major league baseball as well as NFL football. This shirt is a tribute to him, and a play on that famous baseball card.
Pimpashirt congrats are in order for Karissa from CA on winning our pimped out ninja customized t-shirt. One extra congrats goes out to the Pittsburgh Penguins on being crowned 2009 Stanley Cup Champs!!
So let’s get it started this week as we pimp out a girls zip up hoodie from Kavio. For pimpashirt #10 we decided to jazz it up with two specialty heat transfer vinyls…glitter and glow. Our “So Dangerous” design also incorporates our new adhesive residue technique. What we did was use our red glitter heat transfer vinyl to cut out a pirate design and then smashed it on with our trusty heat press. And a pirate design would not be complete without an eye patch. So for our eye patch, we decided to use our glow heat transfer vinyl…yes that’s glow in the dark. Hold it up to the light to charge it up, turn out the lights and watch it glow. We promise it glows…our camera wouldn’t pick it up that well for the video as you will soon see. Now, to finish off the design, we once again used our cold peel heat transfer vinyl and peeled it hot to achieve our adhesive residue finish. Check it out below…
She's so Dangerous
As always, pimpashirt #10 was caught on video for your viewing pleasure.

Welcome back to our subscribers and welcome to new viewers! If you have arrived here as a result of Jason Sadler’s, IWEARYOURSHIRT.COM website – we have a special treat for you! Of course, we are going to teach you exactly how we created the shirt that Jason is rocking out today, because that’s what we do here. But before we do that, we want to give you a personal invitation to subscribe to this site and join us for a fantastic voyage through the world of t-shirt making.
This is how we do it - each week we release a new pimpashirt, we launch it through a blog post, we feature it with some photos and then we let you experience the making or what we call the pimping of the shirt through a video. After it’s all said and done, we fold the shirt all up, place it in a USPS envelope, put a shiny gold bow* on it and send it to one lucky winner from our subscriber list. As weeks progress and our list grows we’ll be announcing many new giveaways – all related to t-shirts of course. That’s Pimpashirt.com in a nutshell – now join in on the fun by entering your email at this link.
Now – how do we say welcome to a host of new visitors? A t-shirt giveaway of course!!! Since the shirt we are showing today is already on Jason’s back we want to give away 5 – count em 5 – Limited Edition Pimpashirt Logo Tees individually numbered as exclusives. You have to be on our subscriber list to be eligible to win one of these tees. Winners will be announced Monday with our regular post.
Finally, let’s talk about today’s feature presentation -
The IWEARYOURSHIRT/PIMPASHIRT Special Edition tee features a cluster of concepts and techniques and was made specifically with our wearer in mind.
First things first - we picked out a black XL t-shirt from Jerzees. We happened to have a case of these in the warehouse so that was the pick.
Next we thought about the shirt. How can we make this extra special for Jason, after all the guy wears a different t-shirt every day all year. How can one t-shirt stand out???
PEJ: No – pinks already been done. Let’s go for something different.
Self: Tackle Twill?
PEJ: No – too heavy on the t-shirt, Jason is in Florida in June not ideal for heavy decoration on a shirt.
Self: Florida?
PEJ: Yeah Florida.
Self: Aha – how about something related to Florida?
PEJ: Like what an alligator or a palm tree?
Self: No – something cooler than that.
PEJ: Hmmm….old people?
Self: What!!!?
PEJ: Nevermind – Got It!
Self: What?
PEJ: I’ve been following Jason for awhile and know he’s into basketball, and he’s from Florida. There is a team in Orlando that is quite ‘magical’ this year maybe we should do something related to basketball in their colors.
Self: Nice….but wait isn’t he from the north part of Florida.
PEJ: Dunno (confirmed afterwards, yes he is) but shirt pimping has begun. And luckily we know everyone loves a little Magic!
After this deliberation, design began, then cutting , then heat application. We arrived at a shirt that features the following customizations:
The bottom left of the shirt features a cool oversize print of a basketball. The basketball is designed, then imported into a software program that automatically generates the dot pattern. We then took the pattern and cut it out of puff material to add some extra dimension to the shirt.
Next – the right side of the shirt features a two color stripe pattern with a star. The star and thin stripe are created out of a diamond plate silver material and the thick stripe is created from a metallic blue vinyl.
Lastly – to make this a one of a kind, like all pimpashirt creations – we leaned on a technique that we pioneered called adhesive residue printing. We used the adhesive residue for that subtle tone on tone finish stating in fact that the shirt Jason is rocking is a Pimpashirt.com Original.
Enjoy the photo of what we think is a great looking t-shirt:
Now enjoy the video that shows the making of this pimpashirt and a heat press that closes when scratched on like a turntable*:
Let’s put our hands together for Barbara from Schaumburg, IL on winning Pimpashirt #8…our tribute to the classic game of Tetris.
Which now brings us to Pimpashirt #9 where we introduce a new technique we call Adhesive Residue. This week we are using a vintage style t-shirt from Bare Apparel.
Our creation this week features a new customization technique that we call Adhesive Residue. To achieve this look, we are going to use a cold peel heat transfer vinyl. Cold peel meaning that the mylar carrier for the vinyl is removed after the garment has completely cooled after heat pressing.
Our design is a two color application consisting of the word Ninja overlayed overtop of our ashesive residue effect that is a silhouette of a ninja. So what we did was cut the silhouette of the ninja out of a white cold peel heat transfer vinyl, and the word Ninja out of a specialty electric metal transfer vinyl. Now for what you are all waiting for…We achieve the adhesive residue technique by applying the cold peel heat transfer vinyl as we normally would, but rather than letting it cool to let the adhesive set in, we wait three seconds and then peel the mylar. This allows the adhesive to begin to adhere to the t-shirt slightly, giving it a cool tone on tone look. Pretty nifty, huh? We then drop our ninja text over the silhouette of the ninja.
Adhesive Residue Close-Up
As you all know we like to offer unique design techniques here at pimpashirt, so we decided to add a little more flavor to this one as well. Since we used a ninja design, we decided to shred a portion of the t-shirt with a pair of scissors as if it were sliced ninja style with a sharp ninja weapon.
Shredded Ninja Style
Enough talking about it…here is Josh creating this weeks pimpashirt on tape.
Thanks for tuning in this week. Stay updated by subscribing to us and be sure to follow us on Twitter.
We always appreciate feedback on all of our creations, so let us know what you think. Even if you have an idea you would like to see, let us know…we are always looking for cool ways to pimp a shirt. Until next week…
Jim from Mulberry, Indiana cashes in on Pimpashirt #7 – our reverse embossed headphones design. Now onto this week’s Pimpashirt which left us cashed out…
Pimpashirt #8 features 7 different colors of vinyl – none of them overlapping. Although it took some time and money and made for quite the challenge, we pieced it together just right to bring you a t-shirt that pays tribute to a classic game Tetris. The shirt we used this week is a womens long sleeve style from Alternative Apparel out of Georgia.
Check out our skills….
Tetris T-shirt made from Heat Applied Vinyl
Close Up View Custom Tee
This shirt is one that we would charge the big bucks for…. It has 7 colors in total – some of them electric and neon.
If it was screen printed that 7 screens to account for.
With vinyl, it wasn’t exactly cheap either.
Our cost in heat applied film alone on this t-shirt was $12.00. This relatively high cost was due in large to the fact that we opted to keep each layer completely spaced when cutting to limit the amount of individual placements that we’d have to do in the heat press process. By doing this, there is a lot of wasted vinyl in the weeding process – you’ll see this in the video. Also – as good as our intentions were by making this decision, you’ll see that we still had quite the time lining everything up just right. As we progressed into the heat press cycles, layers of vinyl began to shrink slightly under the heat and our shirt stretched/distorted a bit. So you’ll see we made the adjustment and began to trim a few pieces apart so everything looked just right. Not a big deal – but it did add some time.
So let’s get to the process – watch us knock this one out by viewing the video below – oh, before you watch I should warn you, Mike, one of your Pimpashirt emcees, got a little crazy on the intro – but we enjoy getting a little crazy and having fun…. now onto the video:
Please let us know what you think of this Pimpashirt creation by leaving a comment below and also be sure to give us some feedback on our intro’s -should they be crazier or toned down?
