Customizing with Flock & Foil – Pimpashirt #3

Pimpashirt features the latest in t-shirt customizing techniques as a way to encourage new enterpreneurs to start your own business in customized apparel.

First and foremost, big ups to last weeks t-shirt giveaway winner Donna from Staunton, Virginia.  She walked away with pimpashirt #2 - featuring a skull patterned vinyl with a drop shadow and a wrap around print.  Nice!!!

Now on to the lecture at hand….

Pimpashirt #3 is a creation fit for those that want to show they make money, money.  It’s a combination of gold foil vinyl and green flock used to create a design that focuses on ‘green’.  We’ve combined a dollar sign, elements of the recycle symbol and lettering to come up with this creation.

 The process happens like this…..

We cut each material (the foil and the flock) individually on the vinyl cutter, then heat press them – first the foil and then the flock for our front design – see below.

This t-shirt also features a name drop on the back lower portion of the shirt – which we apply separately.  This placement sets the shirt off from being standard, giving it a nicer look for a small extra cost.

Now, if you’re breathing and anywhere close to the streetwear market you know that foil is on fire.  Whether gold (as featured in this week’s shirt) or chrome – its all about having the mirror look.  We’ve achieved that but still felt it needed to be complimented.  That’s why we added some feel to the garment with the flock (we’ve been told by a a few major t-shirt retailers that flock is coming back BIG – so we couldn’t resist).

The end result is just what you’ve witnessed - a multimedia, multimeaning decoration that we proudly add to the pimpashirt.com collection!

Of course, we almost always pimp our shirts on video.  Week 3 is no different – enjoy the beats and the footage, we did.

Oh – and before you leave us, remember you can help us attract the pimpest designers and t-shirt brands by helping us improve traffic – to help - publish a link to this post on your favorite forum, tweet it or email it to your friends.

Pattern Overlay/Wrap-around Print Custom T-Shirt – Pimpashirt #2

Customized t-shirts with heat press vinyl – see a new one each week, tutorial videos, photos, how to’s at pimpashirt.com.

First and foremost we need to announce the winner of Pimpashirt #1. Drum roll please…and the winner of the very first pimpashirt original…Daniel Samperi out of New York! Congrats to you and we thank you for your support of pimpashirt.

Onto pimpashirt #2. For this  weeks customized t-shirt, we are pimping a black Jerzees 100% cotton t-shirt with a pattern overlay and a wrap around print.

First, let’s look at the pattern overlay. To achieve this look, we cut “12:00″ out of two different types of heat transfer vinyl. The bottom layer is cut out of red vinyl and the pattern overlay is cut out of a skull pattern heat transfer vinyl. The red vinyl is smashed on with a heat press to the t-shirt first, then the skull pattern vinyl is then heat pressed over top of the red vinyl. As you can see in the photo below, the pattern vinyl was positioned so that the red is a drop shadow for the skull pattern.

Now that’s pimp. So let us move onto the wrap-around print. For this shirt, the word “twelve o’clock” will be wrapped around the bottom.

Twelve O'clock wrap-around print

Twelve O'clock wrap-around print

How are we going to achieve the wrap-around print when the shirt is wider than the heat press? First, decide how much or how little of the print is going to be wrapped. Then place the garment on the heat press, and position the print accordingly. A portion of the print will be hanging off of the heat press…how much depends on how large or small the wrap-around is. Heat press the portion of the print that is under the heat press…don’t peel when press time is up. Now, reposition the t-shirt on the heat press so that the un-pressed part is now under the heat press. Lock down the heat press for the remaining portion…now you can peel the mylar from the entire print. Voila…wrap-around print complete.

Sounds pretty easy.  If you don’t think so…don’t worry…we’ve got it on tape and published it for your t-shirt making pleasure below.

Don’t forget, here at pimpashirt we give away each one of our pimped out creations every week to one of our loyal subscribers. So if you haven’t subscribed…shame on you…subscribe today! Reverse Embossed Customized T-Shirt – Pimpashirt #1

Entrepreneurs, T-Shirt Enthusiasts, Business Starters – welcome to the launch of Pimpashirt.com where we will pimp one shirt each week, every week and teach you how to do it.

Our first creation shows off a plain Gildan white t-shirt being pimped with a brand new process called reverse embossing.

Things will get more creative on the art side of things, but for this one it’s a simple, clean design that allows you to focus on the process.

The word “CHICAGO” is cut out of heat applied puff vinyl, masked with a special mask called Solutions mask and smashed on with a heat press.  After the puff application is complete a simple rectangle cut overlay of electric blue heat transfer vinyl is heat pressed directly over the top.

The result is a 3 dimensional, reverse embossed design - pictures are below:
